The athletic mind is one that enjoys a competitive workout with likeminded individuals. Participating in sports is a way for athletes to physically train to later apply their strength and endurance. Sports require that individuals are both mentally and physically up for a challenge as you will be tested every time that it is game time. Often as children we are introduced to sports which not only teach you the importance of being physically fit but there are plenty of life skills to learn as well. Sports teach you how to be a team member which is an essential social skill for college & career readiness, they also teach you how to evaluate the nonverbal cues of others as well as how to become better at the skills/talents that you naturally possess. For the super invested athlete there is sports technology available, which is the use of electronic devices to monitor progress. This technology can be in wearable form such as socks that contain pressure sensors or devices that can be used to for calculations. Sports technology can be used to calculate scores, calories, step, distance, pulse and heart rate. In professional sports additional types of sports technology include GPS (Global Positioning System) for tracking velocity outdoors, LPS (Local Positioning System) for tracking velocity indoors and VBT (Velocity Based Training) which uses sensors for performance tracking in the weight room.
