Biotechnology

Biotechnology is the merging of biology and technology with a purpose to enhance the lives of living beings. Biotechnology has been used to genetically modify living organisms such as the pest resistance of corn or the removal of seeds in watermelons. Approximately 60% of our food sources that we consume are genetically modified. Biotechnology is also being used for the development of gene therapies that target specific genes to reduce or eliminate the presence of harmful disease-causing proteins. Moreover, biotechnology can be used for the development of human organs using 3D printing technology.
